A concussion is the most common type of traumatic brain injury, and it is also the least serious. A concussion, resulting from a blow to the head, sometimes causes loss of consciousness. Some of the symptoms of concussions are subtle or do not appear immediately after the injury.

Symptoms of a concussion include clumsiness, nausea, slurred speech, headache, ringing in the ears, sudden sensitivity to noise or light, and personality changes. Concussions also may cause memory issues, which may result in difficulty recalling the events of the accident. The symptoms of concussions in children are largely the same as symptoms in adults. These symptoms can last from a few days to weeks or longer.
